The "Ruse of the Devil"

People are tempted by all kinds of things and society today makes many temptations readily available.  However, I want to reflect on the "ruse of the devil" for those of us involved in serving others, in Church ministry, in caring for our families and communities----doing lots of good, wonderful things.  St. Vincent de Paul saw in St. Louise de Marillac the danger of trying to do too many good things.  Here is what he wrote to her:

"Oh!  Take great care to preserve it (your health) for the love of Our Lord and His poor members and be careful not to do too much. It is a ruse of the devil, by which he deceives good people, to induce them to do more than they are able, so that they end up not being able to do anything.”(Coste, vol. I, p.92)

Do you know people who burn themselves out doing lots of great things?  Are you one of them?
