Feast of St. Martha

St. Martha is a good example of blending contemplation with action. In the gospel, we first meet Martha at a party at the house of Lazarus and Mary. Jesus is the guest of honor and, like all good hosts, they put on a very welcoming feast. Martha becomes annoyed when Mary doesn't help.

The next incident occurs when Lazarus dies and Jesus comes to console the family. Martha declares her belief in the resurrection, the first person to do so. Martha understands Jesus' message and ponders it in her heart. As a woman, we rarely find this much development of character in the New Testament.

As a Daughter of Charity, we see that Martha is a model to consider. She represents the ideal that Vincent help up to us as Daughters.
