Daughter of Charity Vocation-Come and See Retreats

Interested in checking out if the Daughters of Charity are for you? Maybe you know someone who feels called by God to make a radical gift of self to Christ. This retreat will help sort that out a bit in a setting of prayer.

Our theme for the Emmitsburg retreat will be "Christ the True Treasure". If you are interested in coming to any of the retreats you can contact us at the above places. If you are in my "neighborhood" and would like to come to the Emmitsburg retreat you can contact me at larocksrd@doc.org or call 410-646-2074.

Feel free to pass on the info if you know someone else that may be considering that total gift of self to Jesus Christ. More info about the Daughters of Charity can be found at http://www.daughters-of-charity.com/ and there is lots of good info about all the branches of the Vincentian Family at http://www.famvin.org/. Check it out!

Whitney Kimmet officially became a Daughter of Charity postulant on August 19th at a simple prayer service in Bladensburg, MD. She is ministering at Elizabeth Seton High School. This step in the process of becoming a Daughter of Charity lasts for 1 year and then will be the seminary (novitiate). Whitney met the Daughters of Charity through bulletin announcements for a "Come and See"/vocation discernment retreat. We have several of them a year across the country. I need to get them posted for you!

Sr. Pat Connolly's Vocation Podcast

De Paul University has been doing a series of podcasts for their Office of Mission and Values. Here is the link: http://mission.depaul.edu/podcast/scarchive.asp Included in the series is an audio sharing by Sr. Pat Connolly, DC of her vocation story. Sr. Pat Connolly is currently working at the United Nations with the Daughter of Charity NGO (non-governmental organization). The purpose of our NGO is to encourage governments which are part of the U.N. to understand the situation of those living in dire poverty and dangerous situations and to take action. Since we have Daughters of Charity throughout the world, we are able to provide first hand information from areas of great distress. Here is a link to the NGO website of the Daughters of Charity and our brother community, the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians): http://www.cmdcngo.org/become-involved.html .

Here is the audio clip of Sr. Pat!---Ok so I'm learning how to embed a podcast and this will take some experimentation. So, click on the link to get to the podcast. Once there you will see a list. Click on Sr. Pat's.

Two Daughters of Charity Sent on Mission!

During our provincial meetings in July, 2 Daughters of Charity were sent on mission. The top photo is Sr. Salvatrice Murphy being sent on mission for the first time from the Basilica of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, MD. She is missioned to the local community just across the creek and will serve as a licensed social worker at Seton Center.

Here is Sr. Jean Widener being sent on mission from Mater Dei in Evansville, Indiana. Sr. Jean is a teacher and will teach at a Catholic school in Evansville.

Many Daughters of Charity were gathered at both locations and joined in on the wonderful celebrations in gratitude for these 2 wonderful vocations with which we have been blessed by the Lord. We pray that they may continue to grow closer to Christ and that they are continually renewed in their first enthusiasm and that this great step in faith that they have taken may boost each of us in our vocation also.
